The Never-Ending-Story might serve as an alias
title for this work, since the subject of social media is in
fact, a rolling ball. But, so is the entire process of writing
and publishing in the digital age. With the
technological advent of hypertext,
the concept of printing anything to
paper now seems like a quaint handicap.
Hypertext is fundamental to the structure of the World Wide Web,
providing an instant, easy-to-use, flexible method of sharing
and interlinking global information over the Internet.
Throughout this “book” there are words and phrases that are hyper-linked to Websites, articles,
videos and expanded reference materials, or to other places
within this document itself.
This
book is currently published only in Adobe’s Portable
Document Format (PDF), a new media platform which supports
the hypertextual linking and embedded multimedia ...and this
book is only fully functional when the reader is simultaneously
connected to the Web. Printing it will actually disable all of
the navigational tools, not to mention being a waste of paper.

This
publication is currently provided as a “freemium.” In 2006 venture
capitalist Fred Wilson
first described this new business concept:
"Give your service away for free,
possibly ad-supported but maybe not, acquire a lot of
customers very efficiently through word of mouth, referral
networks, organic search marketing, etc., then offer premium
priced value added services or an enhanced version of your
service to your customer base."
Visit the DesignWise News pages to
find out more about the company that is following that directive
in providing this book. The DesignWise site
delivers an ongoing collection of articles and information on
social media Web marketing and updates, many of which
are included in the latest version of this book. And of
course, don’t miss the special offers inside, designed
to help you get started in developing
a
Social Business.
